ABSTRACTS GENERAL RULES

Deadline for Oral and e-Poster submission is 09:00 pm (Brazil time) February 22nd, 2024.

RETINA 2024 will only accept abstracts that are original, unpublished until the date of presentation at the congress, in two different formats: ORAL PAPERS or e-POSTER. The Scientific Committee only accepts online submission and reserves the right to reject papers that do not comply to the BRAVS published rules.

To access the paper submission e-form the author must complete the e-registration form first. One of the authors must be fully registered in the congress; however, the payment can be made on a later step. The author can come back to his/her registration in the system and make the payment according to the registration fee correspondent to his/her category and date of payment. Information regarding the corresponding author (address, department, institution, email) must be completed and the email address valid, as all communication will take place through this email. It is not mandatory that authors are BRAVS members.

Each abstract must have one of the selected forms of presentation:

  • ORAL PAPERS - BRAVS AWARD (abstract + full paper)
  • E-POSTER (abstract + PPT/KEYNOTE)

Each abstract must have one of the selected areas:

  • CLINICAL RETINA
  • SURGICAL RETINA

The Scientific Committee will accept complete and unpublished papers in the posterior segment field. Case Reports must be submitted as e-Posters.

Abstracts and Papers may be revised at any time from the beginning of the process until either the deadline of 09:00 pm (Brazil time) February 22nd, 2024 or until the author finalizes it. In no event, the Scientific Committee or the Executive Secretariat will perform corrections, substitutions or make any changes in the abstracts or files.

When submitting an abstract, the authors automatically accept all regulations and authorize the organizing Committee and BRAVS to publish it nationally and internationally in their printed and electronic medias with no payment involved.

Do not submit an abstract if it is not your intention to attend the congress.


ORAL COMMUNICATION

Oral Paper: abstract + complete paper

Deadline: February 22nd, 2024

Both complete paper and abstract must be submitted in English, if sent in other languages it will not be considered for evaluation and will be rejected.

No limit for papers sent by the same author. Limit of 8 (eight) authors per paper.

Free Papers applying for ORAL PRESENTATION requires besides the abstract, the upload of the complete paper as Word file.

Abstracts and complete paper are submitted on line. There is an e-form for the abstract and a specific area indicating where to upload the complete paper file on the screen.

Abstract - electronic form

  • Character limit: 2.000 not including titles and authors (automatically calculated by the system and the author is notified when exceed 2.000);
  • Abstract in English, only;
  • Structured with purpose, methods, results and conclusion;
  • Tables, graphics and images will not be accepted.

Important: Abstract title must be identical to the complete paper title.

Complete paper

Prepare and upload a word extension file following the instructions below:

  • Identification page with: paper title, authors, institution, corresponding author and key words;
  • Abstract in English;
  • Paper must contain: introduction, methods, results and discussion;
  • Acknowledgments are optional;
  • References;
  • Graphic images, pictures, subtitles, tables;
  • Word document file cannot exceed 5 Megabytes;
  • Total of pages: maximum of 12 (twelve) A4-size pages including identification page, abstract, main text, graphics, illustrations, tables, bibliography and references.

Important note: Nor complete paper or the abstract can show any reference to the authors or institution. This information must only be included in the identification page. This way the Committee Coordinator can ensure a masked evaluation when sending it to reviewers. Papers that do not comply with the rule will be rejected.

E-POSTER

Join us at the digital exhibition at the congress that will be integrated into the technical exhibition area. This state-of-the-art presentation promises to be one of the highlights of the meeting! There will be no physical Poster Exhibition. All accepted posters will be presented digitally and can be called up on screens. In addition to this, the posters will be placed at the RETINA 2024 site as well as in a poster library on the Brazilian Retina & Vitreous Society website from mid May 2024 to April 2025.

Best Poster Awards are being offered to the best 3 (three) e-posters.

  • Suel Abujamra Award: Best Clinical Case Report Poster
  • Oswaldo Moura Brasil Award: Best Surgical Case Report Poster
  • João Alberto Holanda de Freitas Award: Best Scientific Study Poster (clinical, surgical or experimental)

The abstract must be submitted in English, if sent in other languages it will not be considered for evaluation and will be rejected.

Slide file

The slide file must be uploaded in the electronic form. Please prepare your electronic poster presentation in accordance with the below specifications before submitting your e-Poster. Also, please do not enable document encryption or password protection.

Page setup: The presentation should be in landscape orientation with a screen ratio of 16:9.

Maximum allowed size is 80x45cm.

Limitations: Maximum number of slides/pages per presentation/ upload is 5. The file size should not exceed 8 Megabytes.

File format: The presentation must be in PPT, KEYNOTE or PDF format to be accepted (Windows, Mac or Linux). Please note that all uploaded presentations will be converted and published in PDF format.

Animations: Avoid overlapping animated objects or serial animations. Only the final view/status per slide will be visible as all uploaded presentations will be converted and published in PDF format.

Font size: The font size should be 14pt or bigger.

Images and Tables: You are welcome to use images and tables in your presentation.
All graphs and tables must be embedded in your slide file.
Avoid animated GIF files and be careful to respect copyright and personal anonymity with your images or photos.
Do not insert or embed any videos in your presentation.


REVIEW AND ACCEPTATION

All papers and abstracts submitted in compliance to BRAVS rules will be analyzed by the congress ORAL FREE PAPER and POSTER Committees. The decisions of the Committees and Jury will be considered final.

Notification of acceptance will be posted at the congress website by March 18th, 2024 and correspondent author will be notified by email as well.


FILM FESTIVAL

Deadline: February 22nd, 2024

Only videos related to Retina and Vitreous will be accepted.

Videos will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Complications: FRANCISCO ARTHUR MAIS AWARD
  • Inovations: JOVIANO DE REZENDE FILHO AWARD
  • Surgical Technique: SÉRGIO LUSTOSA DA CUNHA AWARD
  • Educational: LUIZ DE ASSUMPÇÃO OSÓRIO AWARD
  • Young Retinal Surgeon (under 35 years): CHRISTIANO FAUSTO BARSANTE SANTOS AWARD
  • Best BRAVS Video (the best in all categories): BRAVS 2023 FILM FESTIVAL AWARD

Videos selected as first place in each category will be awarded. In addition, video with highest score among all categories will be named Great Champion.

The Judges’ decisions will be final and not subject to appeal of any kind.

Guidelines

Maximum video length: 2 (two) minutes.

Scientific Video Submission deadline is February 22nd, 2024 at 9:00 pm BRT.

Abstracts (2.000 characters) and Videos shall be submitted electronically through the Congress website.

You are required to write a title and a brief description of your video, up to a maximum of 2.000 characters in total. The Abstract should just provide a brief description indicating the content of the video, including its novelty and clinical relevance. No data is expected or required in your abstract.

It is mandatory that the title of the video in the abstract be the same as in the video file you upload. Video presentations must be uploaded at the same time as the Abstract.

Videos must be sent in MP4 format.

Acceptable file size: up to 100MB.

One of the authors should be fully registered by March 31st, 2024.

A maximum of two films will be accepted from a same first author that must be registered and fully paid congress fees.

Maximum number of authors per video: 1 (one) author and 4 (four) co-authors

Videos must be submitted in their final edited form and when narrated, the language must be English.

Videos previously published or presented at any national or international meeting are not permitted.

BRAVS will send confirmations of receipt of videos.

Judges review and selection will be based on: content, originality and art.

By submitting a video, authors automatically agree it will be available to be posted and to be part of BRAVS digital library.

Please ensure that you have permission to use any image presented as part of the video. This includes a license for copyrighted material and release forms from any patient(s) recognizable in the video.

Authors are responsible for obtaining written authorization regarding use of copyrighted music or materials and agree to indemnify and defend BRAVS from all claims based on copyright infringement.

Videos that do not comply with the above guidelines will be rejected.
